It was one of the hottest films out of the Sundance Film Festival, but "Blackfish" will leave you with chills. Critics have praised "Blackfish" for being an "emotionally powerful" and "mesmerizing psychological thriller" that could double as a teaching tool. Thank you for watching CNN Films' documentary "Blackfish" for more information, please visit cnn.com/blackfish.
I live in Victoria, B.C. and remember our Orca Tillicum very well. The kids here got to come up with his name. I wanted Oak Bay Marina to let him go back to his family Pod, not into a show. I remember hearing about his cries at night, and the Pod going by him and responding back to his cries as well. I often wished that someone would cut a hole in the net that kept him in the pen, so he could get out to return to his family. This Killer Whale was only a baby when he was caught. When the incident happened with the trainer that drowned I knew they should of let him go then. The decision to sell him was one of great upset to me. I wanted as did a lot of Victorians to let him go and be free! In fact now seemed the perfect time. They ended up as you know selling him to Sea World instead. I wish the people of decided it was o.k. to take these whales from their families would wake up! We have No right to take any animals from their nature habitat and decide that they should become a form of entertainment, and profit for the rich! Tilicum should still be set FREE now more than ever, to return back here to his home waters. They are very smart, and I believe it is way over due for this poor guy. Please people wake up and let ALL the captive orca whales go home. We can watch them in movies and go Whale watching to see them happy in their own Pods live! I look forward to watching this special if only to see my once old friend Tilicum again, and pray you will be free soon.
Trainers always take the chance of getting badly hurt or killed when trying to be buddies with a wild animal. I would never lose any sleep for these goofy, so called trainers as they chose to play with fire.
I've seen the cove and now blackfish. These documentaries are so eye opening. I will never support sea world, aquariums or the zoos of the world. After knowing all of the information how can someone justify it? People are saying we're taking away from the children learning about these animals and that they can't afford safaris? Well a lot of people can't afford them but I'm not justifying visiting sea world or a zoo because of that. Children aren't learning about the animals and their natural habitats they're learning that they can do tricks and stay in tiny pools and cages and were teaching them that it's ok. Other people say well they're born into captivity so it's ok. Well if a child is being abused and they're born into that type of family then is that ok? NO so what is the difference? We need to stand up for the rights of animals, to be their voice and to know it is not right for them to live this way and to do something about it. The world needs to change. Now
It took me a long time to see TheCove, it will take a long time to see the BlackFish movie too.... THANK you for showing this movie! The word MUST come out that Captivity WILL Kill..... These beautifull creatures do NOT belong in tiny tanks.... It is no education for kids. Kids like dinosaurs also but the can't see them for real but they learn from pictures and books etc. Let's teach them te same about marine mammels in their habitat THE OCEAN. We need to help the animals and NOT but them in cages JUST for OUR or the kids pleasure, it not right.....
